Audubon Adventures
Greater Ozarks Audubon received national recognition for our record number of classrooms sponsored in 2005, and was among the top 10 Chapters in 2006 to provide Audubon Adventures in the US.
GOAS provides Audubon Adventures, a nature/science teaching supplement to elementary classrooms in Springfield
and southwest Missouri. Audubon Adventures is an environmental curriculum geared toward grades 3-6, although the material may be supplemented to be appropriate
in junior high school classrooms. Each teacher receives a kit with four units they can use at their discretion throughout the year. Each kit includes 32 interactive
newspapers for each subject, a teacher's manual with activities, duplicating masters and research materials.
This year Audubon Adventures is focusing on four compelling
topics:
- Baldy's Back! Our National Symbol Soars Again
- American Alligator: Living Legend
- On the Trail of the Whale
- Grizzlies
Audubon invites elementary school teachers around the country to engage students' curiosity about the natural world by bringing science to life in the classroom with Audubon Adventures.
Each issue is full of facts, activities, and action tips that connect nature with science, reading, and art, and also inspire and empower kids to care for nature in their daily lives.
For additional information about how to enroll a classroom
This program is funded by our spring Birdathon,
and through directed contributions made at our fall bird seed sale. This is our largest budgeted item, and we feel it is a worthwhile educational service to
our youth and teachers in our region. If you would like to sponsor a classroom for a special child or teacher, the $45.65 per classroom is tax deductible. We now fund
oer 107 classrooms, and provide individual kits for homeschool teachers.
GOAS volunteers are available to provide guidance and visits to classrooms with
a variety of programs. Participating teachers receive a free years' membership in the National Audubon Society. If you would like to learn more about Audubon Adventures, or
wish to sponsor a classroom, contact GOAS Myra Scroggs
