Earth Day Clean-Up 2010
continued from the home page
Join us for a morning of spring cleaning along our favorite stretch of urban creek until noon. Bring your water bottle; snacks will be available.
Alternatively, meet us at the Lake Springfield Boathouse at 9:00 am to continue the TogetherGreen GOAS trail project started last winter. We can use folks who can drag cedar limbs down the
hill for chipping. Lunch will be served, but you need to call 864-1051 to reserve your meal. We'll work until 3:00 pm. Be sure to bring work gloves and sturdy shoes.
If you have questions, or need directions to either event, contact Myra Scroggs
See you at the creek, the lake, or both!
Green Leadership Academy for Diverse Ecosystems
continued from the home page
Green Leadership Academy prepares for its second season, June 20-26, 2010!
The Green Leadership Academy for Diverse Ecosystems GLADE is a week-long, service-learning, peer-mentoring residential camp for sixteen high school students entering their junior and senior
years. GLADE is a project of Greater Ozarks Audubon Society (GOAS) and Missouri State University MSU in partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). The 2010 season is made possible
through grants from National Audubon Society's TogetherGreen Innovation program and the Community Foundation of the Ozarks CFO. Financial support is also provided by Missouri State University and Greater Ozarks Audubon.
As we enter our second year of this multiple-year project, we appreciate last season's support from businesses, organizations, and individuals who share our passion to connect High School
kids to nature. Support GLADE 2010! Sponsor a student this summer, or find out other ways you can help.

The GLADE project aims to:
- attract highly motivated teens from rural communities
- increase their ecological knowledge and awareness of nature and the impacts of their actions
- expose them to environmental professionals and potential career opportunities
- restore habitat that is globally and regionally critical to species in Missouri
- develop leadership skills necessary to plan and carry-out conservation projects in their communities
Post-academy projects will allow GLADE's goals to reach larger audiences, attract candidates in succeeding years, and reinforce the peer-mentored aspects of the academy. The GLADE project
serves as a model for ecoregion-based youth conservation leadership development.
Students conduct hands-on giant cane or glade habitat restoration at
Drury-Mincy Conservation Area, an MDC Conservation Opportunity Area (COA), located in one of Missouri’s Important Bird Areas IBA. The residential camp utilizes facilities at Bull Shoals Field
Station BSFS of MSU, which operates to promote research and provide educational programs that increase public understanding of southwest Missouri ecosystems.
The 2009 Green Leadership Academy project received great video coverage; also check out the camp photos.
